Sailor Sweater – Maglione da Marinaio
Il maglione da marinaio, conosciuto anche come Guernsey, è forse il capo più antico del guardaroba maschile;
prende il nome da un’isola nel canale della Manica e risale pensate al XVI Secolo,
al regno di Elisabetta I, quando il commercio marittimo era molto sviluppato e i marinai avevano la necessità di proteggersi dal freddo e dalle intemperie.
Nacque per questo motivo il Guernsey che, due secoli più tardi, divenne parte della dotazione
degli equipaggi della Royal Nevy, grazie al famoso Ammiraglio Nelson, che amava in maniera particolare questo capo.
I maglioni sono lavorati in un solo pezzo di lana, senza cuciture laterali e la forma è uguale sia davanti che dietro;
aderisce bene al corpo per tenere più caldo e venivano trattati con l’olio per garantire impermeabilità;
ha il collo dritto e le maniche sono corte sul polso per evitare di bagnarle durante le manovre di bordo.
Un capo storico dunque, che oggi veste il gentleman informale oltre che ogni lupo di mare che si rispetti.
Indispensabile dunque nel proprio armadio.
Sailor Sweater
The sailor sweater, also known as Guernsey, is perhaps the most antique garment of male wardrobe; it takes its name from an island in the English Channel and
it dates back to the Sixteenth Century, to the time of Queen Elizabeth I, when the maritime trade was well established and sailors had the need to protect
themselves from cold and bad weather conditions.
The Guernsey was created for this reason and, two centuries later, it became part of the set of the Royal Navy crew, thanks to the famous Admiral Nelson, who
particularly loved this sweater.
The sweaters are made from just one piece of wool, without side seams, and the front and the back sides are just the same; it perfectly adheres to the body for
extra warmth and in the past it was imbued in oil to ensure impermeability; the neck is straight and the sleeves are short on your wrist to avoid getting wet
during the maneuvers on board.
A historical item, therefore, that today suits both the informal gentlemen as well as any old sea dog worthy of respect.
Therefore indispensable in your wardrobe.
