I Bermuda
I pantaloni corti sono gli antenati di quelli che oggi sono i pantaloni da weekend estivi, da vacanza e in certi casi, perché no, anche da ufficio.
Fanno pensare simpaticamente alle uniformi degli scout o delle scuole private e senza dubbio richiamano il mondo dei bambini; venivano indossati in ambito
sportivo, specialmente nel tennis, e dagli abitanti dell’isola di Bermuda, da cui questi pantaloncini prendono il nome.
Un preciso codice d’abbigliamento dell’isola imponeva di indossare questi Bermuda con: piega con lunghezza 3 pollici, sopra il ginocchio, abbinati a blazer,
cravatta, mocassini e calze fino al ginocchio.
Si narra che in una vecchia sala da tè nell’isola di Bermuda appunto, divenne un punto di ritrovo dei militari della Marina e che il sovraffollamento e il clima
caldo, costrinse il personale a lamentarsi della divisa da lavoro; la soluzione sembrò ovvia: tagliare i pantaloni fin sopra al ginocchio.
Pensate che un Ammiraglio della Marina, frequentatore della sala tè, poco dopo decise di applicare la stessa modifica alle divise dei suoi ufficiali, aggiungendo
però le calze fino al ginocchio, per rendere l’uniforme più presentabile ed elegante.
The Bermuda Trousers
The shorts are the ancestors of those who today are the pants used during summer weekends, holiday trousers and in some cases, why not, even used at office.
They are reminiscent of the uniforms used by the scouts or private schools and, no doubt, they recall the world of children; they were worn to practice sports,
especially tennis, and by the inhabitants of the island of Bermuda, after which these shorts are named.
A specific dress code imposed on the island of Bermuda to wear these with: fold of 3 inches of length, above the knee, paired with blazer, tie, loafers and knee
socks.
It is said that an old tea room on the island of Bermuda became the meeting place of the soldiers of the Army and of the Navy and that the overcrowding and the
warm weather forced the staff to complain about the working uniform. The solution seemed obvious: to cut pants just above the knee.
Simply think that an Admiral of the Navy, frequenter of the tea room, shortly after decided to apply the same change to the uniforms of his officers, adding,
however, the knee socks, to make the uniform more presentable and elegant.
