The history of Audemars Piguet began in 1875, when the two young Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, having completed their studies, decided to take up a career in the watch industry moving to the Vallée de Joux. Despite they produced watches of excellent quality, the company had no immediate success, and the trade mark was registered in 1882, seven years after the foundation. A company that stands definitely out for the complexity of its creations: an example is a pocket watch that could boast a split second chronograph, the minute repeater and perpetual calendar. In 1907 the new headquarters arouse with 70 employees, boasting among its clients names like Tiffany, Bulgari, Cartier who used to buy and resell creations branding them with their names, today recognizable by the series numbers. After the disappearance of the two founders, between 1918 and 1919, it came out to their sons to take the reins of the company and they proved worthy of the names they represented, creating the pocket watch with a thickness of 1.32 mm, virtually the thinnest ever seen. In the late ’20s and early’ 30s, Audemars Piguet, and not only that, entered a period of deep crisis due to the collapse of the stock market. The company returned to shine thanks to the production of an ultra-thin watch whose movement was the Caliber 2003 and the collaboration with Jager LeCoultre, another historic name of the watchmaking, from which will emerge the production of the automatic caliber of 2.45 mm thickness. Audemars Piguet holds other records, including the automatic central rotor watch and the thinner dater in the world, with its 3.05 mm. But the true symbol of the company sees the light in 1972 by the hand of Gerald Genta: of course we talk about the Royal Oak, an icon of watchmaking for its concept and design, proposed at the time for 3300 Swiss Francs. A great reality, which now sees the descendants of the founders at the head of the company and, as you will certainly understand, it has been able to make the watchmaking history and still amazes us with its complexity.
La storia di Audemars Piguet ha inizio nel 1875, quando i due giovani Jules Louis Audemars ed Edward Auguste Piguet terminati gli studi, decisero di intraprendere la strada dell’orologeria trasferendosi nella Vallèe de Joux.
Nonostante si trattassero di orologi dalle ottime qualità, l’azienda non ebbe subito successo e il marchio venne registrato nel 1882, sette anni dopo la fondazione.
Una maison che si distingue sicuramente per le grandi complicazioni delle loro creazioni: un esempio è un orologio da tasca che poteva vantare un cronografo rattrappente, la ripetizione minuti e un calendario perpetuo.
Nel 1907 nasce la nuova sede con 70 dipendenti, vantando tra i suoi clienti nomi come Tiffany, Bulgari, Cartier che comperavano e rivendevano marchiando le creazioni con i rispettivi nomi, ad oggi riconoscibili dal numero di serie del movimento.
Dopo la scomparsa dei due fondatori , tra il 1918 e il 1919, toccò ai figli prendere le redini dell’azienda che si dimostrarono degni del nome che rappresentavano , creando l’orologio da tasca dallo spessore di 1,32 mm, praticamente il più sottile mai visto.
Tra la fine degli anni ’20 e l’inizio dei ’30, Audemars Piguet , e non solo, entrò in un periodo di crisi profonda, dovuta al crollo del mercato azionario. L’azienda tornò a risplendere grazie alla produzione di un orologio ultra sottile il cui movimento era il Calibro 2003 e alla collaborazione con Jager LeCoultre , altro storico nome dell’orologeria, dalla quale ne uscirà la produzione del calibro automatico di 2,45 mm di spessore.
Audemars Piguet detiene altri record , tra cui l’orologio automatico a rotore centrale e datario più sottile al mondo (dell’epoca) , con i suoi 3,05 mm.
Ma il vero simbolo della maison, vede la luce nel 1972 dalla mano di Gerald Genta: parliamo ovviamente del Royal Oak , un’icona dell’orologeria per concetto e design, proposto all’epoca per 3300 Franchi Svizzeri.
Una grande realtà, che ad oggi vede i discendenti dei fondatori a capo di un’azienda e come avrete di certo capito, è stata capace di fare la storia dell’orologeria e ancora oggi ci stupisce con le loro complicazioni.
